Precision Conversion Engine

Precision Conversion Engine is Paivio Media’s six-phase framework for conversion rate optimisation. It connects business goals, funnel evidence and implementation effort so a website roadmap focuses on changes worth investigating.

Turn funnel questions
into a prioritised roadmap.

Understand where the
opportunity sits.

Teams rarely lack ideas for a website. The harder question is which ideas deserve the available development time. A useful roadmap connects each proposed change to a specific customer barrier, a measurable part of the funnel and an estimate of potential value.

The framework suits businesses with a measurable multi-step journey, such as an eCommerce checkout, product guide, sign-up flow or lead application. The testing approach must fit the volume of eligible traffic and conversions.

The goals and data model form the initial foundation. Auditing, prioritisation, testing and learning then repeat as an operating cycle.

  1. 01

    Goals and KPI architecture

Translate the commercial goal into the funnel rates and outcomes the work should influence.

  2. 02

    Hybrid data model

Reconcile order or CRM totals with analytics that help explain movement between steps.

  3. 03

    Conversion audit

Combine funnel analysis with customer feedback, usability evidence and a structured review.

  4. 04

    Gap analysis and value

Estimate potential additional customers and compare that range with implementation complexity.

  5. 05

    Test and implement

Write a hypothesis, agree the test design, complete QA and read the result against predefined criteria.

  6. 06

    Learn and scale

Document the findings, update the backlog and roll out changes when evidence supports them.

Two rates, different questions

Read the whole business.
Then examine the funnel.

Traffic Conversion Rate

New customers ÷ all sessions

A broad commercial measure influenced by traffic mix as well as website experience. New awareness traffic can change this rate without a change in the checkout itself.

Funnel Conversion Rate

New customers ÷ funnel entries

A more focused view of the defined journey. Keep the entry event, customer definition, attribution window and reporting period consistent when comparing performance.

These metrics answer different questions. A change in funnel conversion can still reflect differences in the people entering, so segmentation and controlled testing remain important.

From issue log to roadmap

Give an idea a value range
before committing to a build.

Traffic through the step×Estimated step uplift×Downstream completion rate=Potential additional customers

A planning estimate, not a forecasted result. Express percentage-point changes as decimals in the calculation, and use comparable users or journeys across the inputs.

High value, low effort

Prioritise as potential quick wins. Confirm that the evidence and implementation risk justify the change.

High value, high effort

Scope as a project, with a clear dependency, test plan and decision owner.

Low value, low effort

Consider when capacity allows and the change does not distract from higher priorities.

Low value, high effort

Park the idea and revisit it if the evidence or commercial context changes.

A testing rhythm the
team can sustain.

Distinguish broken experiences from hypotheses. A form that fails to submit needs fixing. A new landing-page message needs evidence that it improves the chosen outcome.

Set sample-size requirements, minimum detectable effect, duration and decision criteria before launch. Cover relevant business cycles. A fixed number of days or conversions is not enough to make every test reliable.

The working outputs include a KPI map, tracking specification, issue log, scored backlog, test plans and documented read-outs. Regular data checks and roadmap reviews keep the process useful beyond an initial audit.

Backend records anchor commercial totals, but still need checks for duplicates, cancellations and definitions. Platform data helps explain behaviour while consent, attribution and measurement limits remain visible.

Questions about the model

A few useful answers.

What is the Precision Conversion Engine?

It is Paivio Media’s framework for connecting conversion goals, data, audits, prioritisation, experiments and learning across a measurable website funnel.

How is an improvement valued?

The team estimates the traffic affected, a plausible step-level uplift and the share that completes the remaining journey. The resulting range is compared with implementation effort.

Can it work for a lower-traffic website?

Audits, usability work and prioritisation can still help. Controlled experiments require an appropriate sample, so the testing plan must reflect the site’s actual volume.

How does it connect to creative testing?

Precision Creative Engine improves the acquisition message and learning process. Precision Conversion Engine examines what happens after the visitor arrives. Their findings should inform one another.
